You set up the Wireless Rollo with the free Rollo app on your phone. The app pairs with the printer over Bluetooth, then joins the printer to your WiFi network. When the WiFi light on the printer turns solid blue, you are connected and ready to print.

Before you start

1. Place the printer within 10 to 15 feet of your WiFi router, ideally in the same room. Walls, glass, and other electronics weaken the signal.

2. Plug the power adapter directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip.

3. Load a roll or stack of 4x6 labels.

4. Connect your phone to the same WiFi network you want the printer to use. Avoid guest networks.

5. Have your WiFi password ready.

Set up with the Rollo App (iPhone or iPad)

1. Download the Rollo app from the App Store and sign in.

2. Power on the printer with the switch at the back. The WiFi light should be solid white. If it is not, press the slim WiFi LED button (the small button next to the WiFi light, it clicks) 10 times rapidly. The light flashes purple and yellow. Wait for a solid white light.

3. In the app, tap the menu button (three lines, top left), then Rollo Printer, then Setup Printer.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions. The app turns on Bluetooth and finds the printer. Select the printer, tap Continue, and allow pairing.

5. If Bluetooth pairing fails, open your phone's Settings, go to Bluetooth, find the Rollo printer (or a device name starting with "sama--"), and tap Forget This Device. Then return to the Rollo app and try again.

6. When asked, choose your WiFi network and enter your password. Use the same network your other devices are on.

7. The WiFi light turns solid blue when the printer is connected. Print a test label from rollo.com/sample to confirm.

Set up with the Rollo App (Android)

1. Download the Rollo app from Google Play and sign in.

2. Follow the same steps as the iPhone section above. Menu (three lines), then Rollo Printer, then Setup Printer, then follow the prompts.

3. Note: printing from an Android phone is limited to 4x6 labels. For other label sizes, use the Rollo Design app (Rollo Design web version) or print from a computer.

Add the printer to a Windows computer

Do this after the printer is connected to WiFi (solid blue light).

1. Make sure your computer is on the same WiFi network as the printer.

2. Go to Control Panel, then Devices and Printers, then Add a printer. Select the Rollo X1040 from the list and click Add.

3. If the printer does not appear, add it manually:

   1. Download and install the Rollo driver from rollo.com/driver-dl/Rollo-Windows-Latest.zip. Open the downloaded file, run the installer, and click Yes if Windows asks for permission.

   2. Make sure to load 4x6 labels on the printer and print a network test page. Press and hold the WiFi LED button for 2 to 3 seconds, until you see green flashes, then let go. Note the hostname or IPV4 address on the test page. (You can also find it in the Rollo app under Menu, Rollo Printer, Default Rollo Printer, Other Settings, Network)

   3. In Add a printer, click "The printer that I want isn't listed."

   4. Choose "Add a printer using an IP address or hostname," then Next.

   5. Set Device type to Autodetect, enter the hostname or IP address, and click Next.

   6. Just click Next once you have the page "Additional port information required".

   7. When asked for a driver, choose Rollo and the driver you installed, keep the currently installed driver, then click Next and Finish.

4. Print a test label from rollo.com/sample.

Note: the Rollo driver does not yet support ARM-based Windows computers (such as newer laptops with Qualcomm processors). On those machines, you can keep printing from your phone, or print 4x6 labels only using a generic thermal driver.

Add the printer to a Mac

Do this after the printer is connected to WiFi (solid blue light).

1. Make sure your computer is on the same WiFi network as the printer.

2. Open Printers and Scanners in System Settings.

3. Click the plus (+) button and select the Rollo printer.

4. Click Add.

5. Print a test label from rollo.com/sample.

No smartphone? Set up from the printer itself

Please see this article: Setup Rollo without a phone

If setup fails

1. Move the printer closer to the router (10 to 15 feet, no walls between).

2. An "invalid password" error usually means a weak signal, not a wrong password. Move the printer closer and try again.

3. Restart your router, the printer, and your phone or computer. Do not skip any device.

4. To test whether your router is the problem, turn on your phone's hotspot and run setup again using the hotspot network.
